Dashain Festivel in Nepal

Most of the days were sunny and the weather was so clear that we could obviously see fantastic Himalayan view with green mountain and Lachok ,Gachok valley from Hananoie. We could also see Mardi khola river from the same location. It had very clean water flowing down to the Pokhara because rainy season had been already over. The river (Mardi Khola) was a drinking water source for people who lived in Pokhara valley.

Around Astam village, farmers would start harvesting rice after one week from now and it took one and half month. Rice were looking yellow everywhere. Seasonal flowers blossomed everywhere. Really, it was looking so beautiful view. This was Autumn in Nepal. Many tourists visit Nepal in this season. Autumn is the best season for visitors.

There are so many festival in Nepal. Among these, Dashain festival is a main festival for Nepalese. It was held from 5 Oct to 16 Oct for this year. All the government offices were closed. People returned to their hometown to visit their relatives, parents and friends. Although it was Hindu’s festival, Buddhists and others also celebrate Dashain. We celebrated this festival for 10 days and pray to Goddess Durga. Tourists were also participate with Nepali in this festival.

Dashain

During the festival, Goddess Durga was worshiped with different names for nine days. The first day was called Ghatasthapana. The ten day was known as Vijaya Dashami. On the occasion we saw all things neat and clean. Houses were white washed or colored with paint while in country side they are colored with mud. All dirt was swept away. New dresses and good food added more delight to children. Peoples were buying Khasi ,Changra. Changra was bring from Himalaya (Mustang and also Tibet) for meat. As a whole, Dashain was the combination of fine things. The symbol of victory of gods over demons, in days long gone by Elders offer blessings to younger by marking their foreheads with Tika and holy Prasad of the Goddess. Everybody looking happy and smile.
