A permaculture resort “Hananoie”
Astam is a small mountain village, 17-km apart from the town of Pokhara.
It is also the home of a permaculture resort and farm “Hananoie”.
Located on a hillside facing to the Himalaya, “Hananoie”
provides 180°panoramic views of 7000-meter class Annapurna range,
downhill rivers and villages. Its 5-hector farm lies
on the slope of the hill from south to north, providing seasonal and organic vegetables.
Permaculture is the combination of “permanent”, “agriculture” and “culture”,
proposed by Bill Morison, an Australian Biologist.
It is an environment design method for human to sustainably live with nature.
Here are some Permaculture that we have been applying in Hananoie.
Astam is small mountain (Hill) like 1400 Meter high from sea level, where Hananoie locates.
There are 80 houses and population is around 300 with different cast
(Braman, Chetree, Tamang, Pariyar and Nepali).
Most of the people are Braman.
We can see good Himalayan view from Hananoie
and the best season is from middle of September to middle of March.
Normally we can see Himalaya, People harvesting rice, many colorful flowers,
and main festival (Dashain & Tihar) at this time.
The other is the rainy season.
It is less chance to see Himalaya in this season, but we can see greenery view.
Hananoie can be reached by a jeep from the Milan Chowk, the trailhead.
But the best way is to take a 2-hour mini-trek, passing though some villages.
Trekking in Nepal is quite unique since it let us walk in where people live.
Not only the villagers but also the beautiful panoramic view of Himalaya welcomes all guests along the way to Hananoie.
