Hiking Around Hananoie

CATEGORY: Hiking

mustard and green wheat with machhapuchhre

Good afternoon!! This is the first message of Hananoie’s staff blog. My name is Suresh Gurung. I am a waiter here.

Hananoie locates in Astam, a small mountain village, 17 km apart from the city of Pokhara. There are about 80 houses. Most villagers are Bahun (Brahman). This time, I went hiking with guests around Astam. So let me show you somethings about the beautiful and peaceful village of Astam or Astamkot.

We walked up the hill from the backside of Hananoie to the top of the hill. It was winter so the weather was quite cold but the sky was so clear that we could obviously see nice Himalaya view. We passed the village, seeing the people doing their job — working in the field, taking care of goats, milking buffaloes. At that time, they were growing mustard and wheat. Some villagers were making baskets from bamboo. We use this kind of basket to carry fertilizer and grass for buffaloes. .

It took about one hour to get to the top of the hill. There was a primary school there. This is the only school in Astam. We took rest and went back to Hananoie

I hope you enjoy this article. See you next time.
