Milking Activity

milking

Now I am going to write about milking activity. I have heard milking is done by machine in developed countries. But we use traditional method of milking.

Usually we drink cow’s and buffalo’s milk. But in the Himalayas people take sheep’s and goat’s milk too. It is believed that the goat’s milk is more nutritious than cow’s. Male bufalloes, “Raango” in Nepali, are used to plough lands in southern part of Nepal whereas oxen are widely used in mountain areas.

As everybody know that Hananoie is a permaculture resort, we use buffalo dung as a fertilizer, which is organic, to grow vegetables. Simply we can say we keep buffaloes in hananoie for two purposes: milk and fertilizer.

So, now I want to write something about milking activity. Milking means drawing milk from an animal by hand or it can be any mechanical method. We do milking manually. It is a traditional way. Usually guest find this method interesting and they are more eager in participating. Normally milking is done twice a day everyday in Hananoie, although it depends on how much milk the buffaloes can produce throughout the year. So, during milking guest can participate and observe how it is done. I heartly recommend everyone visit Hanano-ie and participate in milking activity.
