This is the month of June or Nepali month “Ashar”. It is rainy and cloudy almost everyday. Ashar is a busy month but very important beacause we start planting rice in this month. Of course, there are a plenty of paddy field around Hananoie so we can see people planting rice.

Planting rice is so interesting. Men and women works together. The men are in charge of power works such as ploughing and digging, while the women take care of planting rice. They do in traditional ways such as singing “hoho male hoho hoho tare hoho” while ploughing.

In August, it will be cleaning season. The rice will be ready to be harvested in October or November.

Nepalese rice has long grain and not sticky. It is well-match with Nepalese food, especially curry!!
