Tihar Festival

We celebrate Tihar Festival last week. It is a Hindu festival but followers of others religion also celebrate this festival. Tihar festivel is celebrate in Nepali month of “Kartik” (October/November). Date of the festival change every year because it is fixed by lunar calendar. We have holidays during the Tihar festival.

The festival is celebrated for 3 days. The first day is Laxmi pooja. Laxmi is goddess of wealth. We pray to laxmi in evening time. All houses are decorated with the light. We can call it as the festival of light (Deepawali). People sing and dance around this village. Some people play deusi vailo. It is a fantastic time. Some people are playing deusi vailo for 3 days. People are give them some money with some rice and bread.

The second day is Govardhon Pooja. We pray for domestic animals such as Buffaloes, cows etc. The Third day is main day of Tihar. We call this day as Bhai Tika (brother day). Tika time is generally in the morning. At this time sisters take Tika for brother and put it on the forehead and both Ears with various colours and beautiful Mala (flowers) and give some gifts and preparing fruits,bread,sweets and especial food also soft drinks and alcohol. After finish Tika, altogether having food and singing,dancing and playing deusi vailo.
