Roxi is a famous traditional Nepalese liquor. It is easy to find in countryside. People from Gurung and Tamage community are familiar with making Roxi In Nepal They made for in-house consumption and for sale also. Roxi is an important thing in Gurung’s culture.

The Roxi is made from millet, a mountain crop. It is planted in May, June and harvested in this season.

Let me tell you how to make the roxi. First, we boil millet in a pot. Then we take it out and mix with Marcha, which is a kind of herbal medicine. Next we keep the mixture in warm place for 3 weeks and it will become “Jand”. We use this to make the roxi. People uses copper pots or mud pots to keep the roxi. It is transparent and looks like water. In Hananoie we serve homemade Roxi to our guest. You can see people from Tamage community around Hananoie making local Roxi.
