CATEGORY: Hiking

River Mardi Khola

The weather is cloudy and it seems to rain. Nowadays it rain in the evening here. Tonight we have a couple of Japanese guest. They will stay here for one night.

We go hiking in many places with guests. It is interesting and there are somethings you can learn from hiking. Today let me tell you about hiking from Hananoie to River Mardi Khola.

Mardi khola is a river flowing on the valley downhill. It starts from Mardi Himal So it is called Mardi khola. It supplies water to Pokhara city. Round-trip trekking between Hananoie and Mardi Khola takes 5 hours.

In the rainy season, this period, we can see green paddy fields with full of water along the way. However, we have to be careful of leeches, which are now seasonally vigorous. In other seasons, you can see difference scenery and activities of the villagers.

The hiking course is not steep. There are some tea stalls. You can get black tea, milk tea, soft drinks, etc. there. We can see people fishing. If we are lucky, we can see Himalayan trout in the river. It is very famous in Nepal. There are some local shops selling trout fish items.

We can pass a few villages such as Nuwagaun, Gairigaun on the way back. This let us see many activities such as taking care of seasonal crops and planting seasonal vegetables. We may see farmers keeping domestic animals such as buffaloes, goats. Also we may see farmers making some snacks such as pop corn, boil corn for tea time or in the morning.
